What to expect
The 90+-year-old tradition that launched Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Lauryn Hill, and countless others. The raucous crowd cheers or boos — and the Executioner sweeps losers off stage. Heats run October–April, with finals in the spring. A core Harlem experience. (Rolling: Wednesdays, year-round — monitor the source for specific dates.)
