What to Do About Neighbor’s Aggressive Dog

So basically: I do not know who these dogs belong to, I don’t even know what building they belong to.

Our courtyard behind our building contains our trash bins. There is a pretty flimsy chain link fence that separates our courtyard from another buildings. With the way the buildings are oriented, it’s really difficult to tell who it belongs to.

Whoever owns that courtyard has three huge aggressive pit bulls that are CONSTANTLY outside. I mean, they are never inside to the point that I think the owner considers them to be strictly “outdoor” dogs.

These pit bulls are EXTREMELY aggressive. The moment you walk out into the courtyard they charge the gate, repeatedly body-slam it, growl, snap, the whole nine yards. My sister owns a pit bull whom I love, and so we are both pretty good at reading their body language. These dogs are NOT PLAYING.

At this point I am honestly pretty worried that they are going to break down the fence one day and don’t want to imagine what would happen if they did. I really don’t know what to do. The owners are often out with the dogs in the afternoon drunkenly playing music and yelling so not really keen on approaching them. I’ve called 311 and they’ve been no help. I don’t know what to do.

EDIT: Their courtyard is separated into two halves - the half that is shared with ours, and another half that’s through a small archway. I can’t see the owners, and they never come in our half of the courtyard.

EDIT 2: Because I realized I didn’t mention it. No, the dogs are not leashed. They have also semi-successfully tried to scale the fence before which I honestly would’ve found really impressive if it wasn’t so scary.

submitted by /u/excessively_loud
[link] <a
